Health 1st, the MUSC Employee Wellness Program, focuses on physical, nutritional and emotional health and injury reduction. This program encourages MUSC employees and others through the community to participate in programs that promote the health and well-being of the MUSC community.
Health Screenings and Assessments Detect health problems during their early stages! These screenings and assessments help reveal your strengths and weaknesses as well as direct you towards behaviors to better your health. Screenings and assessments include: Classes, Workshops and Events Classes and workshops are presented by staff from Prevention Partners, MUSC employees, students, and faculty, and by resources in our Charleston community. Topics are related to a wide range of issues about wellness and healthy lifestyles.

In the Fall of 2005, 3283 MUSC employees responded to a Wellness Survey. Responses showed that 55% of employees were overweight or obese, and half of these described themselves as "couch potatoes." Those who were overweight were 6 times more likely to have diabetes, 4.5 times more likely to have high blood pressure, and 5.6 times more likely to have fair to poor general health.
